Unlike thugs with hearts of stone and irreconcilable nicknames like Bugsy, Sonny, Fifi, or Baby Face, mandarins have truly sweet pseudonyms. The clementine is sometime called “The Algerian” because it was reportedly discovered in Algeria, but its more common name, the clementine, is in reference to the monk Father Clement who discovered the hybrid in an orphanage garden.
